Attendees at the recent Munich Motor Show had access to an automated valet parking area and BMW has just released a video that shows the all-electric iX making the most of this innovative facility.

The video shows the driver dropping off the iX at a designated area of the parking lot. A smartphone application is then used to initiate the self-parking feature.

Using a combination of the sensors and cameras found in the iX, as well as those located throughout the parking lot, the SUV is able to navigate its way to a spot where it reverses in. A robotic arm then extends from the parking bay and plugs in the iX so it can charge its battery. The clip even shows the iX approaching an automated car wash within the parking lot, although it doesn’t actually show the SUV driving through the car wash.

When the driver of the iX returns, all they have to do is open up the app and order the BMW back to the space where it was dropped off.

Bosch is behind the automated valet parking system and has been working with automakers, including Daimler, on the system since as early as 2015. In mid-2017, an automated valet parking system was launched at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany that functioned in the same way as the one used at the Munich Motor Show.

The BMW iX is supposed to be the brand’s new flagship electric car, which also means that it needs to be BMW’s technological flagship. We start outside, with the front end of the car. While the kidney grille panel might be controversial looking, it’s very useful. It’s a housing panel for all of the car’s frontal sensors and keeps them hidden from view. So rather than have ugly sensors visible, they’re integrated into the kidney grille. Interestingly, the panel is quite functional. It has heating elements to keep snow and ice from obscuring the sensors’ abilities and the surface features a self-healing film, which will heal any sort of scratches or stone chips on its own.

Moving onto the interior, we get to see the impressive cabin of the BMW iX. It’s more spacious than its exterior would suggest, thanks to its bespoke EV architecture, and it features the nicest interior of any BMW, maybe ever. More importantly, though, it has some cool tech features.

There’s the electrochromic sunroof, which can switch from opaque to transparent with the press of a button, and BMW’s latest iDrive system. The latter has more functionality than ever before and is far more intuitive to use than all of its previous iterations. One nice function is its ability to tell the driver if certain charging stations are full and if they need to find a new one. That will save a lot of time for drivers.

Here’s the BMW iX - BMW’s first purpose-built, all-electric SUV!
So does the iX stand a chance against class leaders like the Tesla Model X or Audi e-tron? Well, it’s time to find out!
Starting with the exterior design, there’s no denying that it’s certainly striking! Sure, it doesn’t need the massive ‘grille’ upfront, but if anything it clearly helps it to stand out on the road. What’s more, the high-quality of the outside continues through to the inside, where you’ll find a minimalist design coupled with a load of tech.
The performance isn’t all that bad either! When it comes to the range-topping xDrive50 edition, it comes equipped with a 100kWh battery which is good for a claimed range of 373 miles. It also produces 500hp, and can hit 60mph in under five seconds!
So the question is - is it really worth the £95,000 starting price for the range-topping iX50? And should you consider it over a Model X? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

Prueba BMW iX xdrive50 M sport 2022 . El Kaiser tecnológico y eléctrico de BMW. Hoy en Auto sensacion El Bmw ix 2022 es el primer SUV eléctrico de la marca con plataforma propia. Existen dos versiones según la capacidad de su batería. : el ix xdrive40 y el ix xdrive50. Hoy probamos la de más capacidad , con 523c.v de potencia y un arsenal de tecnología nunca visto antes.

 

Prueba de manejo del BMW iX xDrive40 y comparación con mi X5M

Probé el BMW iX 40 hoy como uno de los primeros clientes en Suecia. Mi coche es un BMW X5M Competition, así que con eso estoy comparando el iX.

Realmente no me gustó el BMW iX cuando vi las fotos por primera vez. Pero ha crecido en mí, pero todavía tenía dudas sobre el interior. Ya no, el iX es un automóvil de gran apariencia tanto por dentro como por fuera. No es tan lujoso como mi X5M, pero no está lejos. No he visto una sola foto de un iX blanco que me haya gustado, pero viendo el iX blanco en la vida real. WOW, es impresionante

Es más espacio dentro del automóvil en comparación con el X5M, mucho más espacio para las piernas en el asiento trasero. Es una gran diferencia. Me preocupaba el nuevo tablero, pero funciona. Hay mucho espacio entre el tablero y los portavasos. Me gustan las nuevas pantallas idrive más de lo que pensaba.

Mi única queja real es el espacio de carga. Es pequeño. Casi del mismo tamaño que el i4. Debería haber sido más grande

Entonces, el testdrive. Bueno, arrancamos el coche y luego tuvimos que apagar la música. Es más fácil decirlo que hacerlo. No hay ningún botón en el tablero. Finalmente, pudimos bajarlo en el volante, pero estoy seguro de que el control por gestos habría funcionado, pero en ese momento no pensé en ello. El coche está silencioso, muy silencioso. Hay 2 modos de conducción, D y B. B es difícil de regenerar cuando se levanta el pedal del acelerador. El coche se detiene con fuerza. B hizo náuseas medicinales. No me gustó ese modo. Pero D fue realmente bueno. Durante la conducción normal, actúa como un automóvil de gasolina normal, pero cuando te acercas a una parada, agrega automáticamente la regeneración, por lo que nunca necesitas frenar, pero entre paradas nunca sientes la parte trasera de la regeneración.

Cuando regresamos y estacionamos el auto, enfrentamos el siguiente problema. Cómo abrir las puertas desde el interior. No hay asa. En cambio, hay un botón para presionar para abrir la puerta. Entonces, quitaron el novato de volumen pero agregaron botones para abrir la puerta. Estoy seguro de que me acostumbraré, pero realmente no veo por qué no podemos tener una manija normal en el interior de la puerta.

¿Reemplazaré mi X5M Competition por un iX? Sí, lo más probable. Pero tengo que esperar al M60 que, según dijeron, tenía más de 600 CV y 0-100 km / h en menos de 4 s. Pero en general, me gusta mucho más el iX de lo que pensaba. Es un automóvil que realmente necesitas ver en la vida real. Las imágenes no le hacen justicia.



BMW iX xDrive40 Test Drive and comparing it to my X5M


I testdrove the BMW iX 40 today as one of the first customers in Sweden. My car is a BMW X5M Competition so that's what I'm comparing the iX to.

I really didn't like the BMW iX when I first saw the pictures of it. But it has grown on me, but I still had doubts about the interior. Not any more, the iX is a great looking car both inside and out. It's not as luxurious as my X5M but it's not far off. I haven't seen one single photo of a white iX that I liked but seeing the white iX in real life. WOW, its stunning

Its more space inside the car compared to the X5M, a lot more legroom in the backseat. It's a big difference. I had worries about the new dash but it works. There is a lot of space between the dash and the cupholders. I like the new idrive screens more than I thought I would.

My only real complaint is the cargo space. Its small. Almost the same size as the i4. It should have been larger

So, the testdrive. Well, we started the car and then we needed to turn the music off. Easier said than done. There is no button on the dash. Finally, we could lower it on the steering wheel but I'm sure the gesture control would have worked but at the time I didn't think of it. The car is quiet, really quiet. There are 2 driving modes, D and B. B is hard on the regenerating when lifting the gas pedal. The car stops hard. B made med nauseas. I didn't like that mode. But D was really good. During normal drive it acts like a normal petrol car but when you get close to a stop it automatically adds regeneration so you never really need to break but in between stops you never feel the backside of regenerating.

When we returned and parked the car, we faced the next problem. How to open the doors from the inside. There is no handle. Instead, there is a button to push to open the door. So, they removed the volume noob but they added buttons to open the door. I'm sure I will get used to it, but I really don't see why we can't have a normal handle on the inside of the door.

Will I replace my X5M Competition for an iX. Yes, most likely. But I need to wait for the M60 that they said had more than 600 hp and 0-100 km/h in under 4 s. But overall, I really like the iX a lot more than I thought I would. It's a car you really need to see in real life. Pictures doesn't do it justice.

 

El de más de 600 caballos estaría bien ver una prueba...
