The BMW M240i (F22 LCI) is powered by a three-litre straight-six engine complete with direct injection, M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology with twin-scroll turbocharging, fully variable valve timing (VALVETRONIC) and DoubleVANOS variable camshaft control. This unit generates output of 250 kW/340 hp and maximum torque of 500 Newton metres (369 lb-ft), which can be summoned from as low down as 1,520 rpm and remains on tap up to 4,500 rpm.
It all adds up to make the BMW M240i Coupe a thoroughbred athlete with exceptional performance capabilities: with the six-speed manual gearshift, the coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). The optional eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission further heightens the dynamic driving experience, enabling the BMW M240i Coupe to reach the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark from rest in just 4.6 seconds.
Performance is even more eye-catching in the BMW M240i xDrive Coupe thanks to its intelligent all-wheel drive. Equipped with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard, it surges from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds.
Both BMW M Performance models leave the factory shod with highperformance mixed-size tyres as standard, with dimensions of 225/40 at the front and 245/35 at the rear. Leaving aside their sporty looks for a moment, they are designed first and foremost to ensure acceleration and braking force is transmitted to the road to optimum effect. The inimitable character of the BMW M240i Coupe and BMW M240i Convertible stems from the way the engine’s power, the M Sport suspension, the M Sport brakes and the cars’ aerodynamic balance all work together so precisely – in classic M style. Variable sport steering adds to the impression of exceptional agility at the wheel of the BMW M240i. It comes with electromechanical power assistance and adapts the steering angle of the front wheels to the prevailing driving situation. This allows lightning-fast evasive manoeuvres but also produces a sensation of excellent directional and straight-line stability in motorway driving.
Depending on the engine under the bonnet, the BMW 2 Series Coupe will be fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, eight-speed Steptronic transmission or eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. The BMW 220i, BMW 230i and BMW 220d xDrive Coupe are offered exclusively with the super-efficient eight-speed Steptronic transmission (eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission available as an option). The BMW M240i xDrive and BMW 225d come as standard with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission in both Coupe and Convertible form. As well as laying on smooth automatic gear changes, the Steptronic Sport also allows drivers looking for a sportier drive to change gear manually using shift paddles next to the steering wheel. The other Convertible engine variants can all be specified with the six-speed manual gearbox, eight-speed Steptronic transmission or eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.
The M240i and 220d variants of the BMW 2 Series Coupe can be ordered either with the particularly engaging characteristics of rear-wheel drive or BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. BMW 2 Series Convertible customers can specify xDrive for the M240i. The xDrive concept ensures optimum power transfer, enhances driving safety and reduces understeer and oversteer through corners. Sophisticated suspension technology, a low centre of gravity, a wide track and almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution all play their part in the BMW 2 Series’ outstanding dynamics and handling properties.
As well as the standard model, the Coupe and Convertible are available in Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport variants, and the line-up also includes a BMW M Performance representative – the BMW M240i/M240i xDrive. Mediterranean Blue, Seaside Blue and Sunset Orange have been added to the selection of exterior paint shades. And the choice of light-alloy wheels has also been expanded – to 17 designs in 16-, 17- and 18-inch formats.
At 4,432 millimetres in length, the BMW 2 Series Coupe and BMW 2 Series Convertible condense their sporting prowess into a compact package. And the four-seaters combine these dynamic talents with a high level of everyday practicality.

The sportiest member of the BMW 1 Series range also boasts a new look. To mark the new model year, the BMW M140i M Performance model is also available in M140i Edition Shadow trim. Black inserts are added to the standard LED headlights and the kidney grille surround is painted black. The darkened rear light assemblies lend further impact to the car’s sporting aura, as do the standard 18-inch light-alloy wheels, which are now available for the first time in Style 436 M Orbit Grey and Style 719 M Jet Black or Bicolour Jet Black, to go with the previously available Ferric Grey (Style 436 M). The sportiest BMW 1 Series leaves the factory shod with high-performance mixed-size tyres as standard, with dimensions of 225/40 at the front and 245/35 at the rear.

When the optional eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission is specified, the BMW M140i reaches the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark from rest in an even quicker 4.6 seconds. The Driving Experience Control switch in the BMW M140i features the same modes included in all models in the range, such as Comfort, Sport and ECO PRO, but also adds the ultra-dynamic Sport+ mode. In this setting, the configuration of the Dynamic Stability Control system allows the driver to perform controlled drifts.
