Video: ¿Qué precisión tiene el sistema DSC de 10 vías en el nuevo

Cuando BMW presentó los nuevos modelos BMW M3 y M4 , también les ofreció un par de trucos nuevos para sorprender a la audiencia. Entre esos nuevos trucos, encontrará un sistema de control de tracción ajustable que básicamente le permite decirle al automóvil cuánto deslizamiento desea. Ese es un truco muy ingenioso, aunque BMW no es el primer fabricante en ofrecerlo, la división AMG de Mercedes lo está superando. Pero, ¿qué tan útil es en la vida real?

Joe Achilles decidió probarlo y verlo por sí mismo. Ahora, desde el principio, debe saber que este sistema DSC ajustable solo se creó para el uso de pistas. En la carretera, no tiene ningún uso práctico, pero en la pista, en teoría, podría ayudarlo a convertirse en un mejor conductor y / o vagabundo. Joe usó otra característica nueva en el M4 para probar cuán útil es realmente el sistema de control de tracción ajustable, a saber, el Drift Analyzer .

When BMW introduced the new BMW M3 and M4 models, it also offered them a couple of new tricks to wow the audience. Among those new tricks, you’ll find an adjustable traction control system that basically allows you to tell the car just how much slippage you want out of it. That’s a very nifty trick, albeit BMW isn’t the first manufacturer to offer it, Mercedes’s AMG division beating it to the punch. But how useful is it in real life?

Joe Achilles decided to test it out and see for himself. Now, from the get go, you should know that this adjustable DSC system was only created for track usage. On the road, it has no practical use, but on the track, it could, in theory, help you become a better driver and/or drifter. Joe used another new feature on the M4 to test out just how helpful the adjustable traction control system really is, namely the Drift Analyzer.

That’s yet another novelty BMW prepared for us, a system that checks out just how good you are when drifting. It analyzes the speed, angles and duration of your drifts and then gives you a rating, based on those three factors. Of course, having an adjustable traction control system to help you out should pay dividends, right? Of course, especially if you’re a beginner. That’s because if you completely turn off the DSC you’ll have to deal with all the power delivered at once on the rear axle. That might soon be a bit too much to control.

On the other hand, keeping DSC on will simply cut the power to the rear wheels whenever the car feels slippage. Yet again, not ideal. But does the new system work? That’s what you will find out by watching Joe and Mischa in the video below, as they try to figure it out themselves as well.

2022 BMW M4 Convertible xDrive: 0-60 mph en 3.24 segundos

Este nuevo BMW M4 es realmente rápido. Para ser honesto, es mucho más rápido de lo que esperábamos, especialmente con la tracción total xDrive. Los fanáticos se preguntaron por qué BMW usaría una tecnología tan herética en los nuevos M3 y M4 y, después de ver las cifras de rendimiento, ahora tiene sentido. Con xDrive, el nuevo BMW M4 es más rápido que un Ferrari 458 Italia en línea recta. Como prueba de eso, alguien probó un BMW M4 Competition xDrive Convertible y alcanzó las 60 mph en 3.24 segundos.


Como referencia, se afirmó que el mencionado Ferrari hizo el mismo sprint en 3.4 segundos en su día, que ciertamente fue hace más de diez años. Lo que es aún más impactante es que el M4 utilizado para la prueba era un Convertible, que es el más pesado y lento de los modelos Competition xDrive. Ni siquiera tenía los asientos deportivos livianos, por lo que era tan pesado como puede llegar a ser un M4. El peso en vacío del BMW M4 Competiton xDrive Convertible es de aproximadamente 4,300 libras, lo que lo convierte en un vehículo bastante pesado.



El coche también era de serie, funcionaba con gasolina de 93 octanos y utilizaba los neumáticos Pirelli P Zero que venían con el coche. Así que no hubo ningún asunto divertido durante esta prueba. Demonios, el tiempo de 0-60 mph fue incluso sin un desplazamiento de un pie y en una ligera pendiente, y aún así corrió un tiempo de 3.24 segundos. (RESULTADOS: Velocidad de la trampa de basura, pero la dejé debido a un poco de tráfico. También era la única persona en el automóvil con 200 libras más 3/4 de tanque de gasolina ... así que definitivamente puedo atrapar más alto con menos peso y WOT hasta el final ... mira en el gráfico y pueden ver que me detuve.)

2022 BMW M4 Convertible xDrive: 0-60 mph in 3.24 seconds

This new BMW M4 is properly fast. To be honest, it’s far faster than we expected it to be, especially with xDrive all-wheel drive. Fans wondered why BMW would use such heretical technology in the new M3 and M4 and, after seeing the performance figures, it now makes sense. With xDrive, the new BMW M4 is faster than a Ferrari 458 Italia in a straight line. For proof of that, someone tested a BMW M4 Competition xDrive Convertible and it hit 60 mph in 3.24 seconds.


For reference, the aforementioned Ferrari was claimed to do the same sprint in 3.4 seconds back in its day, which was admittedly more than ten years ago. What’s even more shocking is that the M4 used for the test was a Convertible, which is the heaviest and slowest of the Competition xDrive models. It didn’t even have the lightweight sport seats, so it was about as heavy as an M4 can get. Curb weight for the BMW M4 Competiton xDrive Convertible is about 4,300 lbs, which makes it quite the porker.

The car was also stock, running on 93 octane gas and using the Pirelli P Zero tires that came with the car. So no funny business was going on during this test. Hell, the 0-60 mph time was even without a one-foot rollout and on a slight incline, and it still ran a 3.24 second time. If you account for a one-foot rollout (which so many publications do), the M4 ‘Vert nailed 60 mph in 3.07 seconds, which is absurd. For reference, my 627 horsepower M5 CS tester, with a one-foot rollout, got to 60 mph in 2.89 seconds.


Gone are the days of slim, lightweight M cars but at least these new heavyweights make up for that with shocking performance.

(RESULTS: Garbage trap speed — but I let up because of some traffic. Also I was the only person in car at 200lbs plus 3/4 tank of gas… so definitely can trap higher with less weight and WOT all the way through… look at the graph and you can see I pulled up.)

I really don't understand why so many people are offended by the M4's toothy grill. I'm not saying it's my favorite, but it doesn't make me want to put my eyes out either. Besides, there are more important things about the new M4 to discuss, like the blistering performance and the fact that it's really more "Grand Tourer" than "Sports Car" and that's just fine with me.
