Here's the long awaited video demonstration of my downpipe + Valvetronic equal length single mid-pipe setup on the G80. Special thanks to Austin and Phil from Valvetronic Designs for creating this video. It was awesome hearing my car from the outside for once! Quick review - I absolutely love this setup. It works with the factory valve control so it's quiet or loud when you want it. In efficient mode, it's quiet and just slightly louder than stock. I commute in this car daily in that mode. It's full race car loud in Sport+ when you're joyriding and just the right balance between the two in Sport. I was concerned about rasp after the downpipe but the single midpipe keeps the deep aggressive tones that the duals don't have. I highly recommend this setup!

But has this ruined the driving dynamics of the car? Having owned our RWD G80 M3 Competition from launch we have a fair amount of experience to see just how different this car is.

▀▄ eas | DIY: S58 M3/M4 BMC Filter Installation

A panel air filter is commonly referred to as a replacement air filter. It is installed in the vehicle's original airbox to replace the OEM air filter. It is made of high performance materials that allow for an increase in air flow along with more efficient filtration. These BMC filters guarantee containment of all impurities from as small as 7 microns, as compared to the OEM's 10 microns.

Filters contribute to generally any gains claimed by aftermarket intakes, at a much lower entry point delivering approx ~10whp and slightly more spool noise from the turbos and can be installed in about 20 minutes. BMW airboxes are generally fantastic in stock form and not at all restrictive for normal street power levels - but the filtering media can be definitely improved upon.



BMC air filters are produced using a full molding system that enables the characteristic red filter to be realized from a single mold with no welded joints, thus avoiding easy breakage. The rubber used in BMC air filtering systems has a long life, is very durable and has optimum adhesion characteristics to all shapes of airboxes. BMC filters are made of a multi-layered cotton gauze soaked with low viscosity oil covered with an epoxy coated alloy mesh to ensure protection from petrol fumes and oxidization due to air humidity. All BMC air filters are pre-oiled, and they can be washed and regenerated by using an appropriate regeneration kit.

BMC Filters are compatible for both S58-equipped G8x M3/M4, including Competition/XDrive.

T25 Torx driver
Pocket screwdriver
13mm & 16mm Wrench (socket)



Installation

1. Remove Strut Tower bolt (13mm forwardmost bolt, 16mm nuts on top of strut tower)


2. Remove Strut Tower Brace


3. Remove T25 torx screws from stock airboxes (4 each airbox)


4. Repeat on passenger side airbox


5. Remove airbox lid


6. Remove charcoal liners with a pocket screwdriver (removed in photo) and discard. Repeat on passenger side.


7. Remove stock air filters and discard. Repeat on passenger side


8. Install new BMC filters into place, filters are marked for left and right sides




9. Reinstall filter lids


10. Reinstall strut tower brace and enjoy your newfound power


Torque Specs

Airbox: Snug to fit/hand tighten

Strut tower brace
18-20lb-ft.

El BMW M3 G80 AC Schnitzer es su Serie 3 más potente hasta la fecha

La famosa compañía de tuning alemana AC Schnitzer está casi lista para lanzar su paquete de tuning completo para el G80 BMW M3 Competition , que será la variante de la Serie 3 más poderosa de la compañía de todos los tiempos. Obviamente, comienza su vida como un M3 Comp estándar, pero tiene un kit de ajuste completo para mejorar el rendimiento, aumentar la dinámica de manejo y lucir más agresivo. Si bien el kit AC Schnitzer aún no está listo, la compañía ha publicado sus especificaciones.

El motor de 3.0 litros biturbo del M3 genera 503 caballos de fuerza y 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) de torque de fábrica. Después de algunos retoques por parte de AC Schnitzer, genera la friolera de 590 caballos de fuerza y 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) de torque, todo lo cual aún se envía a las ruedas traseras. El M3 Comp estándar ya es un puñado, solo podemos imaginar cómo será este automóvil tuneado. The AC Schnitzer G80 BMW M3 is Their Most Powerful 3 Series Ever

Famous German tuning company AC Schnitzer is almost ready to release its full tuning package for the G80 BMW M3 Competition, which will be the company’s most powerful 3 Series variant of all time. It obviously starts off life as a standard M3 Comp but gets a comprehensive tuning kit to boost performance, increase handling dynamics, and look more aggressive. While the AC Schnitzer kit isn’t quite ready just yet, the company has released its specs.

The M3’s 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged engine makes 503 horsepower and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque from the factory. After some fiddling by AC Schnitzer, it makes a whopping 590 horsepower and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, all of which is still sent to the rear wheels. The standard M3 Comp is already a handful, we can only imagine what this tuned car will be like. However, country-specific warranties can offer coverage of up to four years, so at least you’ll know it’s mechanically sound.

A new stainless steel exhaust system, with carbon fiber tailpipes, also increase the noise, while looking cooler as well. The M3 isn’t a bad sounding car but it’s not a brilliant sounding one, either. So hopefully this can add some music to its exhaust noise.

There are two AC Schnitzer suspension upgrades available. For just a drop in ride height, you can get the lowering spring kit, which only lowers the front axle by 15-20 mm, while the rear axle stays the same. So it stances the car a bit. However, an RS coilover suspension kit is far more comprehensive. It lowers the ride height, decreases body roll, and also improves ride comfort. According to AC Schnitzer, their philosophy on ride/handling balance is “Better fast than hard”. I can hear Sterling Archer whispering “phrasing”.

The goal with the RS coilover suspension was to increase cornering speeds, while creating “good-natured load change reactions”, without making it too stiff for public roads.

AC Schnitzer offers a few different wheel options for the G80 BMW M3 but the ones seen in these photos are AC3 Lightweight Forged Wheels with a glossy black finish. There’s a silver/anthracite for these wheels as well.

It wouldn’t be an AC Schnitzer car without having some intense aero, though. Their G80 BMW M3 Competition gets quite a bit of it. A front splitter, front canards, new side skirts, a new rear diffuser to work with the new exhaust, a rear roof spoiler and a fixed rear wing are all available for the M3. The wing is made from carbon fiber and, when combined with the spoiler, can provide up to 70 kg of downforce at 200 km/h.

Inside, there’s also a new steering wheel available. It gets Alcantara on the top and bottom, with stitched leather on the sides, and a stripe at the 12 o’clock position. Carbon fiber inserts fill the spoke trim and large new paddle shifters replace BMW’s existing ones.

This new AC Schnitzer G80 BMW M3 tuning package can genuinely transform the way your M3 looks, feels, and sounds. If you’re looking for a comprehensive tuning kit for your G80, this could be it.
