MUNICH, Germany — BMW doesn't plan to make an M version of its luxury 7 Series, but drivers looking for a high-performance version of the biggest Bimmer can look forward to a new version, created by BMW's German tuning partner Alpina.
The BMW Alpina B7 is powered by a supercharged version of BMW's 4.4-liter V8, delivering 500 horsepower through a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine develops 516 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm, and the big sedan travels from zero to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds.
The Alpina B7 has an aerodynamic body kit, a sport-tuned suspension with Active Roll Stabilization, and 21-inch alloy wheels. It is expected to be launched in July, but supplies will be very limited — only 200 B7s are coming to the U.S. in 2006.
