Michael Schumacher confirmed he discussed the possibility of leaving Ferrari for McLaren five years ago and said team boss Ron Dennis had not given up trying to lure him across.
"There was an approach from Ron (in 2000)," Schumacher told a news conference on Thursday.
"Obviously it didn't work out, because I'm happy where I have been. We have had loads of discussions over the years and every so often he comes around and he checks up, and so it was in 2000.
"It wasn't only in 2000. I don't think it's fair to get into that detail, but he did (approach me again)." Dennis said last month that the British-based McLaren team had the chance to sign the German a few years ago but decided against it.
McLaren's loss has clearly been Ferrari's gain. While Schumacher did not win a Championship in his first four years with the Italian manufacturer, he has won the last five. McLaren's last title was with Mika Hakkinen in 1999.
