Lamborghini CEO Says Two Huracans And Two Urus SUVs Coming This Year, Huracan PHEV Arrives In 2024

Lamborghini recently announced plans to introduce four vehicles this year and now we’re learning more about them.

In an interview with Car Magazine, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said “there will be two derivatives from the Huracan coming up” and “there will be a facelift that will be split into two for the Urus. So there will be four new products that we present this year.”

While Winkelmann didn’t elaborate, one of the Huracans will likely be the Sterrato variant that was snapped by spy photographers earlier this month. The other Huracan is a bit more mysterious, but the publication believes it will be a Huracan JV Stradale which their sources described as a “911 GT3 Touring-like stealth variant of the Huracan STO.”



It remains unclear why the Urus debut is being “split into two,” but spy photographers have already snapped the facelifted crossover undisguised. However, Winkelmann confirmed one of them isn’t the plug-in hybrid variant as PHEV versions of the Urus and the Huracan will come in 2024, one year after the Aventador successor debuts.

Speaking of the upcoming plug-in hybrids, Winkelmann confirmed the Urus PHEV will have a V8 while the Aventador successor will use a V12. While he declined to say what configuration the plug-in hybrid Huracan will have, the executive described it as a “completely new engine” with “nothing in common with the Urus or Aventador engine.”

Car Magazine believes the engine will be designed in-house, instead of sourced from elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group. The publication also suggests it could have a 10,000 rpm redline as well as a combined output of around 850 hp (634 kW / 862 PS) when the hybrid system is factored in.

Officials also revealed the company is starting to give serious thought to their upcoming fourth model, which will be an EV. The vehicle is still in the “strategy planning” stage, but the company is currently testing a lot of electric vehicles to get the lay of the land.

Lamborghini has a new chief technical officer: Rouven Mohr. His in-tray has one Post-it on top of the welcome pack and health and safety handbook: 'Take Lamborghini into the electric age,' it says.

The man tasking him with this immense high-pressure challenge is Lamborghini chief executive Stephan Winkelmann, who says electrification is essential: 'There's a new generation of customers which would not otherwise sit at your table any more.'

So, Lamborghini is charging ahead with electrifying its range as part of its Cor Tauri grand plan to invest €1.5bn into electrification. Mohr – an engineer who has been at Audi since 2008, with a two-year stint at Lamborghini – doesn't need to worry about 2022, which will see two Huracan and two Urus launches. Equally well mapped out is 2023-2024, when new hybrids arrive. But then, in the second half of the decade, Mohr's debut will be Lamborghini's first full electric car.

What comes first from Lamborghini?
'We are almost sold out for the entire year of 2022,' says Winkelmann. 'And 2022 will be the last year when we are launching internal-combustion-engined cars only. There will be two derivatives from the Huracan coming up. And there will be a facelift that will be split into two for the Urus. So there will be four new products that we present this year.'



Those new Huracan derivatives are to be the off-road biased Sterrato and an as-yet-unnamed additional variant. Sources suggest the second Huracan variant to be revealed this year could be a 911 GT3 Touring-like stealth variant of the Huracan STO, possibly named JV Stradale.

The plug-in Aventador
After years of speculation, Winkelmann confirmed to CAR in January 2022 that the replacement for the Aventador will be a plug-in hybrid with a V12 engine. Our spy photographers caught a glimpse of a development mule of the new car pictured below.



'In 2023 we will have the follow-up for the Aventador, which will be the first plug-in hybrid, with a complete new V12 engine,' he says, 'and then in '24 we will have the Urus and the Huracan follow-on as well, plug-in hybrid cars. This will close the first step of our strategy, which will cut CO2 emissions by 2025 compared to today by at least 50 per cent.

'It's three different engines: Urus has the V8, the Aventador will have a V12, for the Huracan we are not yet disclosing what type of engine it's going to be, but it's a completely new engine, nothing in common with the Urus or Aventador engine.

'With hybridisation it's important that you combine the two things and you do it right. It's about cutting emissions for sure, but you have to ensure the performance is better. You have to keep the sound of the engine, a powerful engine, delivering the performance you need.'

CAR's intel suggests that the electrified Huracan replacement will also have a V8. But why is Winkelmann saying the powertrain will be different to the Urus? Because our sources point to an engine Lamborghini has developed itself (i.e. not a derivative of an existing Audi or Porsche engine), redlining at 10,000rpm and fully prepared to run on synthetic fuel. Coupled with electric assistance, total system power is expected to come in at around 850bhp.

What about a fully-electric Lamborghini?
Winkelmann says that, regardless of legislation, there's a new generation that wants and expects a more electrified range. Lamborghini's response involves a two-pronged line-up: supersports hybrids that will have the traditional look and feel that appeals to petrolheads; and for a broader audience, the Urus hybrid and new 'fourth' model, an electric grand tourer first announced during the Cor Tauri conference.



Winkelmann says he and his team are driving a lot of electric rivals as they prepare for the first Lamborghini EV. 'The power unit is one thing but the set-up, the driving experience, brakes, suspension, power-to-weight ratio is going to be even more important in my opinion than today.

'These things are going to be accepted by most of our customers.' Many fears about EVs would, he predicted, 'dissolve into nothing', much as anxieties about introducing different types of transmission were soon forgotten.

'People are moving. It's not about what they think today, it's about what they say when the things are going to be ready. This in my opinion is paramount for the success of a company like ours.'

The Lamborghini EV does not currently exist. 'We are still in the strategy planning, we are still in the phase where we are putting together all the numbers. We are looking into volumes, we are looking into geographical distributions, we are looking into the financials, all these things, but we have a pretty good idea where this is going to end. I'm pretty convinced that we will find a good solution, a good way to do it.



'The team as a whole – we are here 2000 people – has embraced it and really see that this is a big opportunity for the future growth of this company.'

Mohr is, says Winkelmann, 'very enthusiastic' about Lamborghini. 'He's very committed to the future. He knows what needs to be done. He's a young engineer with a lot of power. I wish him all the best. We will test him – there's a lot to do.'

Although he's ex-Audi, that doesn't mean the electric Lamborghini will be a rebadged e-Tron. 'We have such a technological advantage in the Group compared to our competitiors that we don't have to reinvent the wheel. It's important that we find the right balance between make or buy, but this is always the case. We have to define what is very much Lamborghini-like. I've found in him somebody who has his own mind. Everybody at Lamborghini knows the value of the Volkswagen brand, but everybody of us also knows the value of the Lamborghini brand.'

Así lo espero, porque colocarle al Huracán el Motor del Urus sería una auténtica tragedia.
Pasar del extraordinario y sobresaliente V10 a 8.500 rpm al turbo V8, cuando te bajas de uno y te subes al otro de inmediato, es transitar por universos paralelos, lo diga quien lo diga y argumente lo que argumente.
Si le colocan un V8 espero por Dios y todos los Santos que sea atmosférico. Parece que se intuye que sí, a ver si hay suerte y la marca puede seguir diferenciándose.

 

Lamborghini Boss Says First EV Might Be Another Crossover, Followed By An Electric Urus

Lamborghini first announced its future plans in May 2021, confirming a fully electrified lineup by 2024 and its first EV by the end of the decade. Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann now shares a bit more information on the brand’s first electric model, saying it will be a 2+2 or four-seater with increased ground clearance.


More specifically, Winkelmann told Autocar: “When it comes to the first full-electric car, it’s clear that our approach is clear and prudent. Clear because we say: ‘Yes, electrification is part of our future’. And prudent because we say: ‘It’s a completely new car – the fourth model’. It’s a segment we haven’t been in for decades, if we speak about a 2+2 or four-seater, maybe also high from the ground, with more ground clearance”.

The last time Lamborghini offered a 2+2 was in the ’70s, with the Urraco. Winkelmann described the upcoming model as a “more versatile car than the Urus” meaning it will be less affected by the “purist approach” of Lamborghini’s supercars, giving more freedom to designers and engineers.




Even though the CEO gave us a pretty good idea of the EV’s bodystyle, he admitted that it is still too early in the development: “There isn’t a clear decision taken so far, and therefore it’s a bit early to discuss this in depth”. If everything goes according to plan, the EV project will “kick-off” later in 2022 after the initial concept is approved: “It’s advancing in the sense that we’re deciding this year what type of car this is going to be, and not only volumes, pricing and body style, but also much more on the content of the car”.

The CEO said that Lamborghini has the option to choose which components will be bespoke and which will be shared with other brands of the VW Group in terms of platforms, electric motors, and battery technology. However, he explained why they need to retain a fine balance between the two: “Making is important for the DNA of the brand. It’s clear the car has to be a real Lamborghini. But on the other hand, there’s no manufacturer who does everything in-house, so we have the chance to buy inside the group or outside the group. This is a big advantage we have.”

Reading between the lines, there is a high chance that the new EV will be underpinned by the upcoming Artemis architecture, which will also serve as a base for the next Audi A8 and Bentley’s first EV. In any case, a fully electric Lamborghini crossover would likely get a dual electric motor setup offering high power output and all-wheel drive for supercar-rivaling performance, combined with the latest battery technology for a longer driving range.




According to Winkelmann’s earlier comments from December 2021, the first fully electric model from Sant Agata is expected to arrive in 2027 or 2028. Until then, Lamborghini will already have on offer a lineup of plug-in hybrid models, including the facelifted Urus, expected to arrive this year, the successor of the Aventador, set to debut in 2023, and the successor of the Huracan, scheduled for 2024. Furthermore, the debut of Lamborghini’s first EV in 2028 will be followed by another fully electric model, which is none other than the second-generation Urus. Winkelmann confirmed that the second-gen Urus will be “a completely new car” with a fully electric powertrain and no ICE-powered option.

Last but not least, Lamborghini’s CEO said that despite electrification there is still hope for combustion engines – at least for their supercar offerings: “We don’t know what is going to happen after that. It could be that for the super-sports car business, we have an extended period of hybridization if this is allowed by homologation, sustainability rules, and maybe by synthetic fuels. This is a door we’re leaving open so far.”

El fabricante italiano señala que el 2022 será el último año antes de su entrada en el mundo de la movilidad eléctrica. El 2023 estará marcado por la llegada del sucesor del Aventador con mecánica híbrida y, un año más tarde, debutará el primer híbrido enchufable de la compañía.




Lamborghini no es ajena al proceso de transición hacia la movilidad eléctrica que está viviendo la industria automotriz a nivel global y, en especial, en Europa. La exclusiva y popular firma italiana ha trazado un ambicioso plan estratégico que le permitirá culminar un proceso de electrificación. En un corto espacio de tiempo la marca llevará a cabo el lanzamiento de toda una serie de novedades.

Stephan Winkelmann, CEO de Lamborghini, ha realizado unas interesantísimas y esclarecedoras declaraciones a un medio especializado británico. Unos comentarios que permiten despejar algunas de las dudas respecto a cómo afrontará Lamborghini su proceso de electrificación al más alto nivel. Y es que, si bien la compañía ya ha coqueteado con la electrificación, y prueba de ello es el Lamborghini Sián, ha llegado el momento de que el fabricante de Sant'Agata Bolognese (Italia), vaya un paso más allá.

El éxito comercial que viene cosechando el Lamborghini Urus ha permitido a la compañía consolidar una posición realmente buena para afrontar en las mejores condiciones esta transición hacia la movilidad sostenible. Al ser preguntado sobre si la compañía está o no lista para dar el paso a los modelos electrificados, Winkelmann fue bastante claro al respecto: «Sin duda, están listos para la hibridación porque siempre dijimos que no necesitamos ser los primeros, pero cuando lo hagamos, necesitamos ser lo mejor, y esto es algo que creemos firmemente que va a suceder».

El máximo dirigente de Lamborghini aseguró, además, que la electrificación de sus dos superdeportivos y de su todocamino, permitirá reducir a la mitad las emisiones medias de la gama. Esta nueva hoja de ruta señala que el 2022 será el último año en que la gama Lamborghini esté compuesta por modelos con motores de combustión convencionales de manera exclusiva.


Toda la gama Lamborghini estará electrificada en 2025
Lamborghini solo ofrecerá vehículos híbridos a partir de 2025
La oferta de producto de la marca estará conformada de manera exclusiva por vehículos híbridos desde el año 2025. «Para 2025 ofreceremos solo coches híbridos en nuestra línea», aseguró Winkelmann. El primero de estos híbridos está actualmente en desarrollo y, como bien hemos señalado previamente, ocupará el puesto del Aventador. Un modelo que, en palabras de Winkelmann, empleará «un motor V12 completamente nuevo».

A pesar de que cumplir las exigentes normativas de emisiones con un motor V12 es algo realmente complicado, la marca italiana seguirá apostando por estos motores ya que forman parte del ADN de Lamborghini.

Un año más tarde, en 2024, será el turno de la variante híbrida enchufable (PHEV) del Urus. En 2025 seremos testigos de la puesta de largo del Lamborghini Huracán con mecánica híbrida. El primer coche eléctrico de Lamborghini estará en disposición de vivir su puesta de largo en sociedad en algún momento entre los años 2025 y 2030.

Un sucesor híbrido del Lamborghini Aventador en 2023, un Urus híbrido enchufable en 2024, un Huracán híbrido en 2025 y un eléctrico puro para 2028. Así pinta el futuro de la firma del toro, que ha tenido en 2021 el mejor año de su historia.

Así, seis décadas después de la presentación de su modelo debut, el 350GT, Lamborghini ha confirmado que para 2025 solo ofrecerán modelos híbridos. Este será por tanto el último año en el que su línea se componga únicamente de motores de combustión.

"No necesitamos ser los primeros"

En una entrevista a Autocar, el CEO de Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, ha asegurado que están listos para dejar atrás los motores de combustión de forma progresiva.

"Sin duda, están listos para la hibridación porque siempre dijimos que no necesitamos ser los primeros, pero cuando lo hagamos, necesitamos ser lo mejor, y esto es algo que creemos firmemente que va a suceder".
El objetivo de la firma es reducir a la mitad las emisiones de CO₂, y ofrecer para 2025 únicamente modelos híbridos. Esto servirá de base para lanzar en 2028 su primer superdeportivo 100 % eléctrico.

La transformación hacia la electrificación será fruto de la mayor inversión en la historia de Lamborghini, con 1.500 millones de euros durante los próximos cuatro años.


No obstante, Winkelmann ha enfatizado que no renunciarán a su esencia y que el próximo Aventador híbrido enchufable montará un V12 "que cumpla con la normativa [de emisiones]" a pesar del esfuerzo técnico y económico que supondrá.

2021 fue el año de despedida del Lamborghini Aventador. Lo hemos visto en su edición especial Ultimae y versionado para servir como base del nuevo Lamborghini Countach con mecánica híbrida que tanto ha dado que hablar.

En cualquier caso, cabe recordar que la firma italiana ya comenzó su andadura en el terreno de las motorizaciones híbridas con el Lamborghini Sián, una auténtica bestia con 819 CV y un precio de 3,3 millones de euros.

‎Hi guys and welcome back to my channel, this is definitely something new and unexpected! I just got to see the working test mule for the upcoming Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato driving on the street. This is some really great news, because the Sterrato project was believed to be cancelled for quite some time but.. this could mean we will actually see the first ever off-road Lamborghin Huracan!
