Welcome back to the channel ladies and gentleman!
Today we have the honor of driving Mike from @The Recyclers TM EPIC supercharged 1994 BMW M8 E31.
This BMW M8 E31 was a 1994 BMW 840 with the 850 M Sport bodykit installed at a BMW dealer by the previous owner.
Mike from @The Recyclers TM decided to gut the interior, add E36 M3 vader sport seats, an BMW M steering wheel from the E39 M5, the S62 4.9L N/A V8 from the E39 M5 with an ESS Supercharger added to it, the 6-Speed Manual transmission from the E39 M5, H&R sport/race suspension, upgraded racing brakes, E46 M3 diff, straight piped exhaust no cats with Dinan mufflers and much more.
This is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience a machine like this, let alone drive it. There is only one other known Supercharged S62 swapped E31 8 Series known in the world, but it is safe to say this BMW E31 is the only properly 8 series that has been converted into a PROPER BMW M8 similar to how BMW M would have done it but with Mike's own twist and taste. Si cree que modificar un BMW Serie 8 E31 es un sacrilegio, este video ciertamente no es para usted. Si todavía estás aquí, permítenos presentarte lo que solía ser un 840Ci de 1994 . YouTuber Beemer Fam tuvo la oportunidad de echar un vistazo más de cerca al M8 no oficial. El Serie 8 E31 nunca recibió el tratamiento M completo ya que el M8 solo existía como prototipo . Esta construcción única es aún más extrema, ya que perdió los asientos traseros y el revestimiento del techo para quitar peso. If you think modifying a BMW 8 Series E31 is sacrilegious then this video is certainly not for you. If you’re still here, allows us to introduce you to what used to be a 1994 840Ci. Those days are long gone since the sleek coupe was fitted with the 850Ci’s body before getting many other mods. Where should we start? With the engine bay, of course.

Gone is the 4.0-liter V8 M60 with its 282 horsepower as it had to make way for an S62 taken from the M5 E39. Aside from the engine transplant itself, the 4.9-liter unit is no longer naturally aspirated since it was fitted with an ESS supercharger. The 8 Series E31 also borrowed from the sports sedan its six-speed manual transmission, but with a Dinan shifter.

YouTuber Beemer Fam had the opportunity to have a closer look at the unofficial M8. The 8 Series E31 never got the full-fat M treatment since the M8 only existed as a prototype. This unique build is even more extreme, having lost the rear seats as well as the headliner to remove weight. If those seats are familiar, they’re the Vader seats from an E36 M3.

The 8 Series E31 Is Just About As Powerful As Today’s M8 Competition
With around 620 horsepower on tap, this isn’t your ordinary 8 Series E31. As a matter of fact, it has just about the same oomph as the current M8 Competition, but in a car built nearly 30 years ago. The list of aftermarket parts also includes a Dinan exhaust, H&R suspension, and a differential taken from an E36 M3. Fun fact – the rear bracing in the trunk is adapted from a MINI Cooper. You’ve likely noticed the BBS wheels, while the soundtrack is nothing short of amazing.

With so much power going to the rear wheels, it’s a good thing the brakes have been upgraded. For added safety, the seats now have a harness and there’s also a fire extinguisher in case something goes horribly wrong. The shop also built a second 8 Series E31 with an all-black look and the same engine swap, but without the supercharger. It’s obviously less brutal than this and retains its grand touring nature, but with an added punch.

Supercharged E39 M5 V8 Swapped E31 BMW 8-Series Sounds Like An Absolute Riot

BMW never made an official M version of the original E31 8-Series, and the single M8 prototype they did make now sits in their museum. Of course, there was the M-modified and V12-powered 850CSi, but it wasn’t what bimmer fans really wanted. However, one group of enthusiasts decided to create the high-performance 8-Series BMW never sold, and the result is quite impressive.

The car in question started life as just a regular 1994 840i when it was purchased by The Recyclers, but it didn’t stay that way for long. They started by gutting the interior, adding racing brakes and suspension, and swapping out the exhaust system, as well as adding a few other modifications to the engine and transmission. However, the real secret sauce is the components of this car that come from other BMWs.

For starters, the differential came from an E46 M3, and the Vader sports seats came from an E36 M3. On top of that, the steering wheel, six-speed manual transmission and 4.9-liter V8 all come from an E39 M5. Moreover, they added an ESS supercharger to boost the engine’s output even more. That all makes for a car that’s certifiably wild to drive and you can tell how mean it is as soon as they fire it up.

While BMW’s M8 prototype did use a V12 instead of a V8, the 8-Series built by The Recyclers does at least produce a similar amount of power. Compared to the prototype M8’s 632 hp (640 PS / 471 kW), it’s estimated that the home-brewed “M8” is making around 600 hp (608 PS / 447 kW) from its supercharged M5 powerplant. And given it has a smaller engine and gutted interior, we’d imagine the two 8-Series have similar power-to-weight ratios.
