2023 BMW M2 Gets Sleek Rendering With 3.0 CSL Hommage Cues

We’ve all seen spy shots with the 2023 BMW M2, but what if the design took after a concept? Specifically, the retrolicious 3.0 CSL Hommage from 2015. Marouane Bembli, the talented artist aka The Sketch Monkey, decided to blend the two for a purely hypothetical creation. He is not a big fan of the company’s current designs and prefers the previous-gen M2 over the new M240i.


For this reason, he decided to ignore spy shots of the 2023 BMW M2 and focus on the CSL concept. Before drawing his vision of an ideal sports coupe from Bavaria, The Sketch Monkey explained what he liked about the outgoing F87 generation. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so there’s no point in saying X looks better than Y.

On the other hand, we’d argue it is a real shame none of those Hommage concepts made it to production. Perhaps BMW is missing out on a revenue stream by not developing limited-run projects with modern underpinnings housed within a vintage-esque body. As for the rendering itself, it’s based on the new M240i xDrive and borrows cues from the 2015 3.0 CSL Hommage.





We certainly wouldn’t mind seeing the 2023 BMW M2 with the concept’s wide headlights meeting the kidney grille. The artist also adapted the Hommage’s bumper to fit the G87 to lend the RWD machine a special look. The rendering is a reminder of the great work BMW’s design team did with its tribute to the classic CSL.


Speaking of which, some will remember the 2015 concept also spawned a track-focused 3.0 CSL Hommage R with more aggressive styling. It had a racing livery and aggressive aero, but much like the original, its motorsport companion was sadly a one-off.

The 2023 BMW M2 will debut in the months ahead when the CSL will return as a hardcore M4. BMW will also unveil the M3 Touring and a production version of the Concept XM plug-in hybrid SUV.

BMW has been caught putting the finishing touches on the next-generation M2. The performance coupe wasn't all alone since some of the spy shots show the prototype in front of an M240i. We're bringing this up to point out something we hadn't noticed before. It would appear the range-topping 2 Series Coupe is getting different headlights as they no longer slim down while approaching the front grille. Speaking of which, the kidneys have horizontal slats and we are getting the impression the grille is a tad more angular than before. Perhaps the most obvious change at the front compared to the M Performance version is the redesigned front bumper with significantly larger square air intakes. The lower grille has a more upright layout and is flanked by extra vents.

Many people have expressed their disgust at the 2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe’s design since its unveiling last year and famed car design Frank Stephenson has been especially critical of its design. So, should we lose hope that the forthcoming M2 could look better?

In all likelihood, the new M2 Coupe will look very similar to the M240i, albeit with some more aggressive bumpers, a new grille, and some aerodynamic upgrades. That doesn’t paint a pretty picture. Nevertheless, designer TheSketchMonkey has decided to imagine how the new M2 could look if the automaker was to make some significant alterations to it.


Speaking about the design of the new M240i, the YouTuber says the car looks very static and doesn’t have the same sense of motion as the previous-generation 2-Series Coupe. He adds that the hood of the new car looks way too long and is especially critical of the front and rear graphics.

To transform the design of the new 2-Series Coupe, TheSketchMonkey takes design inspiration from the BMW CSL Concept, one of his favorite BMW models from recent times. The modifications start at the front end where there is an enlarged splitter and headlights lifted directly from the CSL Concept and much to our surprise, they suit the shape of the 2-Series Coupe quite nicely.

Elsewhere, the design overhauled the shape of the controversial triangle front air intakes found on the M240i. The car is also sitting on a new set of wheels and some changes have also been made to its sides, making it slightly more striking and muscular.

Yo ya doy por seguro que los diseñadores de accesorios de bmw son traídos de mansory o algún preparador tunero y toman además más que agua con misterio...Cualquiera en su sano juicio ve infinitamente más atractivo el coche sin toda esa historia “decorativa”.

 

Si ya el nuevo M240 pinta ancho, éste nuevo debe serlo aún más... pero esa parrilla con esos elementos en horizontal, no sé yo. Lo peor, el peso... y del sonido ya ni hablar, las normativas mandan ... menos mal, que por lo menos habrá versión manual

Ayer estuve viendo el 2 Coupé en BMW Madrid, había uno en rojo metalizado y me gusta mucho en directo, las fotos no le hacen justicia. A poco que estén acertados con el M, creo que va a ser la repera.

 

Es de lo más bonito que tiene bmw con diferencia.

 

Eso tampoco es muy difícil !! El 3 le hace falta un restyling ya !! El 1 es horroroso no, lo siguiente, el 5 es demasiado grande y barco , los X …… y el único que es precioso u puede ser más bonito es el 8
Y el 4 tiene la riñonada que es entre horrorosa y lamentable

 

Viendo estas cositas el precio del coche sospecho que va a ser de susto…

 

Estoy casi al 100% contigo...la verdad es que aparte del 3....El 8 nada hombre!Un barco caro con plazas atrás y sin ellas a la vez...Era mucho más bonito el anterior 6...
De todas formas, creo que para el mes nos esperan alguna/s “novedades”...

 

Si un m240i equipado va a 80...y teniendo en cuenta precios base de m3-4...ya se puede imaginar el precio...

 

Todos los coches han subido de precio una barbaridad, no hace falta irse a uno aspiracional. Un compacto de mierda te cuesta 30k.

BMW M2 G87: La producción comienza exclusivamente en México a finales de 2022

Al igual que las demás variantes del nuevo Serie 2 Coupé (G42), el BMW M2 (G87) se fabrica exclusivamente en la planta de San Luis Potosí. La planta de México, que abrió sus puertas recién en 2019, está recibiendo un nuevo buque insignia para los aficionados a los deportivos compactos de todo el mundo, que llevan meses esperando con ansias la nueva edición del M2. Quería leer un poco más respecto al título pero no veo dentro contenido al respecto.

Si el normal son 460cv el compe ¿cuantos serán? ¿Y el CS?
¿Los separará 20cv de sus hermanos mayores?

Me imagino viendo el precio del M240i que el M2 normal andará ya entre el M2 compe y el CS de la anterior generación en precio (a ver cuan próximo al CS)

Yo creo que igual ya parten del Comp ya de base...

 

Creo que es posible que partan del Competition pero no creo que con 460cv, ya que una versión CS se acercaría demasiado al la potencia del M3/4 Competition, y no creo que es lo que busquen.
Apuesto más por una versión Competition por debajo de los 450cv.
