I don't know how I ended up here, but I had to sign up and respond because I really don't like this type of guesswork and saying there's something wrong with the car when there isn't. I have no idea what the noise is in the video. Few people commented also and I went for a drive after, same speed same gear and I couldn't here anything. Watch previous videos and you'll also see there's no noise. I can't explain the noise in the video but I assure you it's nothing mechanical. Believe it or not, I'd notice something like that. If I had to guess, it's the stupid sunroof, as I press the clutch in the weight of the car shifts and aerodynamics change. The sunroof seal is the only thing that I changed since the previous video that can make such noise. I didn't ignore anything, I don't guess, I use BMW factory repair manual. Picture from the manual: It can be flush or 1mm deeper in the front. The new sunroof seal did help a bit, but at higher speeds you can still hear wind noise which is inevitable with sunroofs. I hate sunroof. All the best and thank you for watching my videos! Sreten
Coooming up! I register in bmwfaq Welcome @sreten ,a pleasure to have you here and continue with your "excelente" work
Hi Sreten, welcome! Trying to be constructive, not confrontational. As I too suffer noise from the stupid roof, about 10-12 years ago I found a document with panel gaps and offsets for the whole E60, expressed as target value plus minus tolerance. In moonroof case it was 0.5mm +- 0.5mm, which seems the same as 0-1mm. But it's not the same. I had replaced gaskets twice, even with revised design one, but only had slight improvement. In my experience better towards 1mm offset. BTW, that document pictured a go/no go tool to check offsets, designed differently from the 009315 (5) in TIS, it was a square plastic plate with steps of different values in each edge and a central recess between levels to clear gasket. I made one from a plastic food cutting board. For the gap friction tool I used a cutting from a water bottle.
Thank you! Sorry about that. I spent a ton of time perfecting this turd mechanically so I get heated easily. I'll give that a try, it's easy enough to lower it. I do feel improvement at lower speeds but over 200kmh it's just noisy and I think there isn't much I can do there. Project Dubai E38 750iL also had the same thing with the sunroof at higher speeds. Really wish it didn't have one...
